Interface box for connecting different serial interfaces and protocols to dSPACE systems

February 22, 2010: The Programmable Generic Interface (PGI1) is dSPACE's new interface box for connecting different serial interfaces and protocols to dSPACE systems.
In customer projects, the box is easy to adapt to specific requirements by means of piggyback modules and a programmable FPGA.
The PGI1 is connected to dSPACE systems via a 250 Mbit/s LVDS link. Its compact dimensions and 5-meter-long LVDS cable give users extra flexibility when installing it.

The Programmable Generic Interface gives function developers new options for connecting a vehicle's sensors and actuators to a dSPACE prototyping system - via SPI, SENT, PSI5, etc. It can also be used to support proprietary interfaces to servos that control electric drives.
In hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, the PGI1 is used to emulate sensors such as rotational speed or crash sensors. In a sensor emulation project completed, four SPI slave interfaces were implemented on a piggyback module.
